Jalapeños are a variety of chili pepper that has a lot of heat! When selecting jalapeños, the peppers that appear to have "stretch marks" are typically hotter.
How to Select
Jalapeño peppers should be firm and smooth, with no visible blemishes.
How to Store
Jalapeños can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. Wrap them in paper towels and place in a plastic bag, but do not wash. Rinse them right before use.
How to Prepare
Wear plastic gloves before preparing jalapeños. Rinse before use, slice, and dice! Remove seeds by slicing the jalapeño lengthwise, and removing the veins and seeds from the pepper. Jalapeños add spice to salsa, casseroles, omelets, vegetable side dishes and more. Jalapeños are available pickled in the grocery store where hot sauces are sold. Smoked & dried jalapeños are known as "chipoltle" peppers.
